The Lamb Cut, Panda Cut and the Teddy Bear cut are the most famous type of coat styles that are approved by the American Kennel Club and other similar organization. These three cuts are designed to display the natural outline with the dog’s body.

The most common of the three is the Lamp Cut, also known as the Puppy Cut that is what you should see most of the time in such dogs.      For mat-free areas, use a No. four blade. You first trim along the genital and stomach areas by lifting your Bichon, holding it by its front legs while it is standing on its hind legs. The nipple area is a little dangerous, so be careful there. Make sure that, while trimming, you follow the direction of the hair growth. You will get an uneven cut if you go againts the growth of hair.

The Panda Cut can be called the Modified Puppy Cut. In this coat style, the hair on the body and part of the chest is trimmed short, except for the hair on the head, beard, whiskers, ears and tail which are kept longer. Carefully trim and shape the hair along the head so that it resembles the round head of a panda with the topline flat or leveled. Make sure that the hair on the rest of the body is trimmed to an even length.

The Fuller Cut is another name for the Teddy Bear because it gives the dog a much more full, rounded appearance in general. It is the most difficult cut for a newbie to do, which is why if you want a good Teddy Bear Cut for you dog, you would need to get the help of an experienced groomer. All the hair on the body must be trimmed evenly, this is a requirement for the Teddy Bear cut look with the hairs on the head cut into a rounded shape.

Part of Bichon grooming is to give the dog baths that would be appropriate to the cut. Bichons with Lamb Cuts need to be bathed twice each month to prevent matting. In the case of the Panda and Teddy Bear Cuts, you would need a professional groomer to give your dog a bath at least once a month in order to maintain the shape of the styles.
